Introduction

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) is an established higher education institution based in Malaysia, specialising in engineering, technology and research-focused academic programmes. Walk Production was commissioned to produce the 2023 Annual Review, with a scope covering conceptual development, visual and layout design, infographic development, copywriting support and print production. The objective was to document institutional milestones and academic outcomes for a global audience. The publication targets stakeholders, academic peers, prospective students and industry partners who follow the university’s progress.

Concept and visual direction

The design concept used a fresh colour palette that reflects the university’s commitment to sustainable futures and its position in education. The visual direction balanced academic content with high-resolution campus photography and a clear typographic hierarchy that supports readability across all sections of the publication. The overall treatment positions the university as a forward-looking institution with strong academic credentials and research capabilities.

The report production translated institutional goals into a visual narrative for the annual review. Infographic design and data visualisation

The team translated global ranking metrics, research outputs and institutional milestones into academic infographic design for the publication. The visual elements communicate the university’s growing influence through clear data presentations. Ranking data, student statistics and research publication metrics were presented through comparison charts and progress indicators that highlight key trends and milestones.

Each infographic was designed to provide quick reference for academic peers, institutional partners and prospective students reviewing the annual review. The data visualisation approach maintained visual consistency with the overall design system while highlighting milestones and year-on-year progress across multiple performance categories. Statistical data was presented in formats that allow direct comparison across reporting periods and against international benchmarks.

Copywriting, print and delivery

The editorial team developed academic copywriting covering research highlights, student achievements, industry partnerships and institutional governance for all narrative sections of the review. Each section maintained an academic tone for the university’s international audience while remaining readable for non-specialist audiences. Print production was managed through to final delivery of the completed publication.
